Do Books Choose You?

Heat Seeking Missiles
Books of great import seem to materialise like heat-seeking missiles. Friends drop them off, titles catch your eye on a bookshelf in the local village, or sometimes at a hotel on the far side of the world.

While titles and covers definitely attract, as our hands hover over a bookshop table, skitter along library bookshelves, or scroll through Audible titles, what seals the deal is an indefinable ‘something’, an imperceptible 'inner knowing’, that bring book and reader together.

The Message
Have you ever come across a book which provided the answer to a knotty problem; conveyed a meaningful message' or assuaged an ineffable longing? Have you sometimes picked up a random title at a fête or charity shop, been given a book for Christmas or birthday, that speaks to the depths of your very soul?

Cool Vibrations I don’t know quite why it’s taken me so long to realise that that ‘something’ isn’t indefinable at all. That ‘something’ is the book’s vibrational field. When the frequency of a book connects with our vibrational frequency - ‘k-ching’ - it’s a match.

The same holds true for films, plays and TV programmes. While PR and advertising creates awareness – catching sight of a poster, hearing an interview snippet on the radio, or seeing a cast member chatting on a talk show – if the inherent vibration doesn’t gel, we're unlikely to buy a ticket, press download or tune in to the channel.

Book Groups, Friends, Pundits and Reviewers all play their part of course, but the undeniable Law of Attraction which underpins so much of our lives, that gut feeling that pings when it’s time to take action, is an unerring guide to entertainment, enlightenment and a jolly good read.
